Schumer, Gillibrand Announce More Than $1 Million For Critical Water Infrastructure For Town Of Sandy Creek In Oswego County

August 8, 2014

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 -- The office of Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., issued the following news release:

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced a $750,000 grant and a $308,000 loan for the Town of Sandy Creek from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This federal funding will be used to update and expand the town's critical water district #2 in order to replace water mains. This update will ensure the new water mains are compliant with regulations and meet supply and distribution standards.

"This much-needed funding and low-interest loan will allow the Town of Sandy Creek to make wise infrastructure investments to its town water district, which will enhance public health, access to clean drinking water and economic development," said Senator Schumer. "This is great news and will now allow the Town of Sandy Creek to make these crucial upgrades without passing the entire financial burden onto local taxpayers."

"This is a much needed investment for Sandy Creek," Senator Gillibrand said. "Upgrading water infrastructure is an effective way to support local businesses and attract new jobs to Oswego County, and deliver clean drinking water to more local families."

Nancy Ridgeway, Sandy Creek Town Supervisor, said "We are so very pleased to hear that we are approved for a loan of $308,000 and a grant of $750,000 from Rural Development. A giant step forward for the Town of Sandy Creek!"

USDA Rural Development's Water and Environmental Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.
