August 6, 2014

"Ahmedabad: In order to expand its data services base in Gujarat, Vodafone spent nearly Rs400 crore on 952 3G and 2G sites across the state from January to June this year. This exercise will gain momentum in the future, with around 66% of their subscribers now using data-enabled phones. The mobile service provider claimed to have 37.7% market share in terms of revenue in the state.

The emphasis on expanding its 3G outreach is evident from the fact that 825 of the 952 new sites are 3G sites. In all, the company has around 10,600 cell sites - 3,000 3G sites, and 7,600 2G - in Gujarat.

At present, 27%, or 16 lakh of Vodafone's data subscribers use 3G, nearly 60 lakh out of the total subscriber base of 1.74 crore uses internet services on their phones. To increase user base, the company had also initiated a 3G awareness and adoption campaign recently, they added.

Mobile internet revenue has grown 90% on-year for the service provider, and now comprises 15% of its total revenue in the state, officials stated. The only regions left here without Vodafone coverage are the Dangs and parts of the Rann of Kutch.

The company on Tuesday announced a Gujarat-specific campaign, 'Ab Jeetega Gujarat', launched a week back. Under it, each pre-paid customer gets a deal offer customised to their phone and data usage, while also getting. Similarly, a 'My delights' offer is also available for post-paid customers.
