2014 Santa Cruz County Artist of the Year talk
Artist John Babcock will lead a special talk from 7-9 p.m. on Friday. at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History, 705 Front St.
Babcock will speak about his work as a documentation of feeling and emotional responses to an idea, as well as the act of making paper, the building of the medium from cellulose and water.
The exhibition, on the third floor Art Forum Gallery runs through Oct. 26.

Curtain goes up on 'BloodTies' at Louden
The Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Junior Theater will present "BloodTies," an original play written and performed by Santa Cruz teens at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Louden Nelson Community Center, 301 Center St., Santa Cruz.

Class on iPad slated for Wednesday
An intermediate iPad class will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cruzio, 877 Cedar St.Santa Cruz.
This three-hour class is for those who understand basic iPad operations. It covers the native applications including email editing, keyboard shortcuts, internet surfing, bookmarks, maps iCloud syncing and backup.
The class will also teach tips and tricks to help you get the most from your iPad, including new iOS 7 features.

Health fair, screenings postponed
Salud Para Le Gente announced that it has rescheduled its August health fair to 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.Sept. 6 at the Watsonville facility, 45 Nielson St.
Walk-in slots will be available for free cervical and breast cancer exams.

Fly-In kicks off with dinner
The Watsonville Fly-In and Air Show will host a kick-off party and fundraiser Saturday at 50 Aviation Way.
The party will include a steak and lobster dinner and silent and live auctions. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.
The 50th anniversary of the air show will be Oct. 11-12 at the Watsonville Municipal Airport.

The Democratic Women's Club of Santa Cruz County is hosting a public summer reception for Rep. Sam Farr at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 14.

Museum art program seeking applicants
The Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History has opened its teen program "Subjects to Change" to Santa Cruz County applicants seeking change.
Through 9 p.m.Aug. 18, the museum will accept applications from those interested in raising awareness of community issues through collaborative arts and cultural experiences. Think arts for social change.

Live Earth Farm hosts annual dinner
Live Earth Farm Discovery Program will host its sixth annual organic dinner, 4-8 p.m.Sept. 20.
El Pajaro: A Feast in the Fields is a fundraiser for the nonprofit educational program, and will feature local chefs, farmers, artisans, winemakers, live music, silent auction, a Pajaro Valley Historical Association display, and children's cob oven pizza and garden party.
