BRIEF: Norwegian-American meeting explores Central Minn. history

Aug. 07--A Norwegian-American event focused on heritage and family history research is underway in St. Cloud.

Tre Lag Stevne ("Three Group Meeting") brings together three groups of Americans with Norwegian ancestry.

On Wednesday afternoon, some of the participants toured Stearns History Museum and St. Mary's Cathedral. Events continue through Saturday at Best Western Plus Kelly Inn. Educational seminars, family history research and entertainment are included.

Stevne lecture topics include west-central Minnesota homesteading, the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution, building a house history, a study of Sen. Knute Nelson through re-enactment and the art of rosemaling. Vendors will be on-site with Scandinavian wares, and there will be lessons in the craft of hardanger.
