A wider palette

Aug. 07--Looking for other ways to simultaneously appreciate wine and art? Here are a few more picturesque night-life options.

BÖsendorfer Lounge

Grand Bohemian Hotel, 325 S. Orange Ave., Orlando

Downtown Orlando's most posh hotel bar isn't technically a gallery -- unless you count the artful design of the lounge's Imperial Grand BÖsendorfer piano. But it's only a few steps away to the hotel's art gallery, where you can find the works of nationally known painters alongside the work of Florida artists such as Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson and Donna Dowless.

CafÉ Tu Tu Tango

8625 International Drive, Orlando

Who says local art can't thrive among the tourist stops of International Drive? CafÉ Tu Tu Tango has been making it happen for years by incorporating area painters into the restaurant's bohemian theme. Artists paint among the diners at this cosmopolitan eatery and bar, making it one of the strip's premier date-night options.

DRIP

8747 International Drive, Orlando

On any given night, the venue itself becomes a painting when DRIP dancers coat the walls with colored sand and liquid during their frenetic performance-art show. More recently, the Local Art Nights have upped the ante with post-show parties featuring a rotating assortment of Orlando artists and musicians on the fourth Thursday of each month from 9 p.m.-midnight.

(Doors open for DRIP shows at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 7 p.m. every fourth Thursday; 347-855-3747; ilovedrip.com)

Paint Nite

Various venues

Inspired enough to contribute a masterpiece of your own? Hit up a Paint Nite event. Organizers of the social art nights invite aspiring artists to come together for a casual painting tutorial over drinks at venues such as Bar Louie (7335 W. Sand Lake Road, Orlando) and Church Street Tavern (120 W. Church St., Orlando). Participants walk away with a canvas of their own creation -- and a nice buzz, of course.
