LOWER TOWNSHIP, NJ, Aug. 4 -- The Delaware River and Bay Authority issued the following news release:
Come sway to the music at the Cape May Ferry Terminal this August! The Lower Township Department of Parks and Recreation and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry are sponsoring two more summer concerts on the green at the Cape May Ferry terminal. The concerts are FREE and feature the popular tribute cover bands, EAGLEMANIA and DANNY V's 52 STREET BAND. Shows begin at 5:30 p.m., so bring a blanket, some lawn chairs and a friend to enjoy great music along the Bay.
"The tribute bands are very popular and we're excited to be able to host two more concerts this summer," said Heath Gehrke, Director of Operations for the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. "It's great family entertainment with several generations frequently found dancing to the music, and parents introducing their favorite songs to the newest generation of potential fans." Gehrke noted that the Bruce Springsteen tribute ensemble , B Street Band, drew more than 2,000 people a week ago.
Gehrke added that high ticket prices for popular bands are increasing the appeal of cover bands. It's a great way to experience favorite bands' music and concert atmosphere, at a fraction of the cost.
"It's great to be able to partner with Lower Township for a third year to host concerts that benefit the community," said Michael Porch, Marketing Manager at the Cape May - Lewes Ferry. "Given the popularity of last year's concert series, we were able to increase the number from 2 to 4. We've seen more families, children and couples come out to enjoy the music."
The next concert will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to "rock out" to the music of EAGLEMANIA, a tribute band dedicated to The Eagle's hits from the 70's and 80's including: "Hotel California," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "Life in the Fast Lane," and "Take it easy."
The second concert will be held on August 13 at 5:30 p.m with DANNY V and his 52 STREET BAND playing popular Billy Joel songs. In over 30 years of admiration, Danny V. honors his idol, "The Piano Man" Billy Joel, in grand fashion by covering his songs in tribute for the public.
Lower Township Manager Mike Voll remarked earlier in the summer, "Mayor and Council enjoy the excellent working relationship with the DRBA in providing great concerts and the best sunsets in New Jersey."
The concerts will be held rain or shine and will offer food and beverages for sale inside the terminal and on the festival green. Guests can also enjoy free parking to the event. Remember, absolutely no carry in alcoholic beverages are permitted. Although many bring blankets for the green, lawn chairs are recommended for better viewing.
