Governor Parnell Protects Alaskan Jobs

August 4, 2014

JUNEAU, Alaska, Aug. 4 -- Gov. Sean Parnell, R-Alaska, has issued the following news release:

Governor Sean Parnell today signed legislation to better protect working Alaskans and help Alaska businesses grow.

House Bill 47 protects working Alaskans and Alaska's businesses from frivolous lawsuits by requiring security to be posted if a restraining order, preliminary injunction, or order staying the operator of a permit is sought against an industrial operation. Supported by the Resource Development Council and the Alaska Chamber of Commerce, the legislation better balances the legal playing field without infringing on any party's right to bring a legitimate issue to court.

House Bill 121 strengthens the Alaska Commercial Fishing and Agriculture Bank's (CFAB) ability to serve its member-owners. The legislation improves the operating position of CFAB by expanding the types of loans for the Alaska commercial tourism and natural resource industries. HB 121 allows a larger number of entrepreneurs to obtain capital to develop projects in Alaska.

CFAB was created by the Legislature in 1980 with $32 million in seed money to assist in financing the commercial agricultural and fishing industries.
