Project F 2325 "Histopathological examination of samples from a long-term inhalation study":

A joint project of the German Federal Environment Ministry, the Federal Environment Agency, the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the BASF investigated possible long-term effects of nanoparticles. The long-term study is applied to four years and is subject to the rules of good laboratory practice and the test specifications of the OECD. As an example, cerium dioxide materials and barium sulfate are examined.

In addition to those already funded by UBA analyzes in this study are more necessary for scientifically deemed necessary evaluations of the study. The main focus lies in the examination of selected organs for possible extrapulmonary effects. The desired power shall extend to certain work to summarize the results on ceria. All work must be performed in accordance with good laboratory practice.

The preparation of the histopathological preparations and their evaluation is carried out according to established testing protocols and is defined in the curriculum of ongoing since June 2013 long-term study. The test materials (organs / organ samples) is provided by the company BASF is available. The implementation time is already in the curriculum. The implementation time, sequence and documentation of the work is to be coordinated with BASF and the Fraunhofer ITEM as other participants in the study as well as with the BAuA.
