Abbott named 2014 Miss NIBROC

Aug. 04--The 2014 NIBROC Festival has a new queen to go along with this week's 62nd annual celebration in Corbin, and her name is Hayley Abbott.

Abbott was crowned Miss NIBROC 2014 at the festival's annual Scholarship Pageant, held Saturday night at Corbin High School'sBetty G. Hamilton Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Abbott was all smiles when she heard her name announced as the winner by the pageant's long-time master of ceremonies, Dr. Brent Chumbley.

Abbott represented Corbin High School in the pageant, and was given the crown and sash by 2013 Miss NIBROC, Kelsey Powell. Abbott also won awards for Best Evening Gown and Best Interview.

Haley Harris, who also represented Williamsburg High School, was named 1st Runner-Up, and won the Swimsuit Award.

Hannah Logan, who also represented Corbin High, was named 2nd Runner Up.

Sara Walker, representing Whitley County High School, received the Alexandra J. Hamilton Miss Congeniality Award and the Miss Photogenic Award.

A total of 12 young women competed in the Miss NIBROC Pageant for 2014.

Named 2014 Junior Miss NIBROC was Ashton Elizabeth Little, while McKinley Moses was named 2014 Little Miss NIBROC, and Jude Merida was named 2014 Little Master NIBROC.

This year's pageant theme was "Once Upon a Time," and the show opened with a production number with the 12 contestants dancing to the popular Pharrell Williams song, "Happy."

Musicial entertainment was provided by country singers Zac Hart and Samantha Lay, along with Lyndsey Green, Amber Hibbitts, Kenton Lowe, Kelly Lowe and Ron Green singing what's become an annual NIBROC Pageant tradition, "This Is The Moment."

Dance entertainment was provided by the Mini Dazzler All-Stars, the Youth Dazzler All-Stars, the Tiny Dazzler All-Stars, and the Jr. Dazzler All-Stars, all form the Gail Frederick School of Dance.

A Corbin tradition since 1952, the NIBROC Festival celebrates its 62nd Anniversary this year, and will have several events this Wednesday through Saturday.
