Aug. 31--Families looking to save for their child's higher education can learn more about a state-run tuition savings plan at an upcoming free webinar hosted by state Sen. Rob Teplitz and the Pennsylvania Treasury Department.

The webinar, "Saving for College with the PA 529 College Savings Program" will be held Thursday, Sept. 4 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Register for the webinar at

"PA 529 is a great investment tool that helps make higher education more affordable for families," said Teplitz, D-Dauphin, York counties.

During the webinar, participants will learn about 529 plan basics and about setting savings goals. Participants will also have an opportunity to type in questions that will be answered by program specialists.

Administered by the Pennsylvania Treasury Department, the PA 529 College Savings Program offers two different ways families can invest in their child's college education: the PA 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan (GSP), in which growth is tied to the rate of college tuition inflation, and the PA 529 Investment Plan (IP), in which investment returns are determined by financial markets.

Free enrollment in the PA 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan is available through September, which is "Saving for College Month." Visit, click on the "Enroll Now" link to enroll in the Guaranteed Savings Plan and use the coupon code "TEPLITZ" to have the $50 enrollment fee waived. Enrollment in the investment plan is always free.
