Tokyo stocks open slightly higher on gains on Wall St.

Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher Monday on buying bolstered by pre-weekend gains on Wall Street.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 29.62 points, or 0.19 percent, from Friday to 15,454.21. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.38 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,280.35.

Major gainers included steel, glass and ceramics as well as pulp and paper shares.
