August 3, 2014

Tokyo stocks continued to fall Monday as market sentiment was dampened by losses on Wall Street last week and a major high-priced stock, Softbank, led the decline.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 48.61 points, or 0.31 percent, from Friday at 15,474.50. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 5.11 points, or 0.40 percent, lower at 1,276.19.

Major decliners included marine transport, brokerage and bank issues.
