Aug. 03--The Buffalo Philharmonic is returning to Old Fort Niagara after a well-received performance last year.

On Saturday, JoAnn Falletta will conduct the BPO in a performance of all-American favorites and bombastic symphonic music. As the program winds down with favorites by Tchaikovsky and John Phillip Sousa, the night sky will come alive with fireworks, providing a dynamic end to the BPO's summer season.

The program is designed to highlight the talents of several members of the orchestra. Violinist Amy Licata and Associate Principal Bassist Brett Shurtliffe are in the spotlight for an arrangement of traditional folk tunes arranged by Licata herself and titled "Fiddling at the Fair." Principal trumpet Alex Jokipii is showcased in Leroy Anderson's "A Trumpeter's Lullaby," and Anderson's "A Bugler's Holiday" puts the entire trumpet section front and center.

Joining the BPO will be the second-place Friends of the BPO Scholarship winner, Teagan Faran. She is a violinist and a 2014 graduate of Williamsville East High School. She was also the winner of the Silverman Scholarship from the Buffalo Chamber Music Society and the Vermont Concerto Competition. Conservatory-bound in the fall, she will perform Pablo de Sarasate's "Zigeunerweisen -- Gypsy Airs."

The crowd-pleasing program also includes music by Duke Ellington, Stephen Foster, Aaron Copland and George Gershwin.

Tickets to the concert are $25 for adults and $10 for children, and include admission to Old Fort Niagara. Prior to the 7:30 p.m. start of the concert, patrons are able to explore the site's exhibits, witness musket and artillery firing demonstrations, and see artisans at work. A family four-pack is $60. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic supper. Tickets are available by calling (716) 885-5000 or visiting
