NASA/ARC has a requirement for a Mid-Wave Infrared Laser (MWIR) system in order to better understand and predict vehicle heating during atmospheric entry. Vehicle heating during entry into the Mars atmosphere is sensitive to the rate of reaction in the shock layer in front of the vehicle. The Electric Arc Shock Tube (EAST) Facility at NASA/ARC produces high speed flows that are similar to the shocks produced in entry phenomena. The MWIR system, which uses infrared laser absorption spectroscopy, will be used to measure the rate of carbon monoxide (CO) formation and destruction in the EAST facility. The MWIR system is a turn-key infrared laser operation system, which includes the following components for laser operation: the infrared laser, power, cooling, programming interface, and wavelength display. The minimum specifications are as follows: - Continuous wave operation, power > 30 mW - Mode Hop Free tuning over > 30 cm
