FSA appoints Kono to new post of vice minister for int'l affairs

August 28, 2014

The government said Friday a senior Financial Services Agency official Masamichi Kono will become vice minister for international affairs, a post newly set up the same day to beef up efforts to deal with negotiations on financial regulations.

The announcement, made by Finance Minister Taro Aso, means that Kono will fill one of the two vice ministerial-level posts in the FSA. The other post, that of commissioner, is currently held by Kiyoshi Hosomizo.

Kono, 58, has been the vice commissioner for international affairs from August 2012. A graduate of the University of Tokyo, he entered the Finance Ministry in 1978 and has served in such posts as the deputy director general of the FSA's Supervisory Bureau.
