Aug. 27--Firehouse Bar and Grill will have an extra country flavor Aug. 27 when country singer Joel Olsson lends his vocals to a night of dining and dancing.

After getting an acoustic guitar around the age of 10 and an electric guitar a year later, his playing days did not begin until a decade later when he was 20.

That same electric guitar he had as an 11 year old is still the one he uses today.

"One thing for sure [is] when Joel performs he pours everything out he possibly can at the time," his biography reads.

The Dallas native will perform from 6 to 9 Wednesday night in a free concert that will also feature a dance floor. The restaurant will open the division between the main restaurant and the ballroom at Meadowbrook Golf and Event Center to allow for extra seating and dancing room.

"It should be pretty family friendly," Meadowbrook Golf and Event Center Event Coordinator Kristi Simpson said.

There might be dinner specials as well for the night to encourage people to stop in for dinner.

The center, which includes the restaurant and golf course, is public, and, Simpson said, the night is also to remind people that it is both a public course and restaurant for everyone to enjoy.

"I think it'll be a lot of fun," she said about the Aug. 27 event. The music will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 9.
