United States : VERIZON starts applying marketing muscle to FiOS upgrades

Meeting expectations, Verizon Communications has started applying some marketing muscle to FiOS upgrades that will allow the telecom giant to pump up the upstream and deliver symmetrical speeds through its fiber-based platform.

Naming its newfound data symmetry as "SpeedMatch,", the company has booted up an ad and branding drive behind the effort.

A new video ad for SpeedMatch says : 'Cable can't touch it.'

Verizon unveiled the FiOS upgrade initiative in July, whereby it will standardize on symmetrical Internet speeds across all of its broadband tiers which includes a top-end offering that will deliver 500 Mbps downstream by 500 Mbps upstream.

The company had then estimated that over 95% of current FiOS customers are able to receive the upgrade automatically.

Verizon started to release the upgrades in late July for both current and new Verizon FiOS residential customers.

It started rolling out the free upgrades in late July for both current and new Verizon FiOS home customers.

The company said current customers will be informed by email when they have been upgraded to the new symmetrical offerings.
