Aug. 26--Willie Dees is the winner of the 2014 Gautier Mullet and Music Festival Art Contest. This year's theme was "Celebrating Nature's Playground," which he portrayed through his rendition of the Town Center's "Nature's Playground" sculpture.
Dees grew up in Pascagoula and lives in Gautier. He graduated from Mississippi State University and has placed nationally in a Federal Duck Stamp contest.
"He is a hidden talent around here and we're glad we found him," festival chairwoman Susan Parol said.
As the winner, Dees receives a $300 prize and will be given a booth during the festival at no cost so he can display and sell his own work. His art will also be featured on the official festival poster and T-shirts.
The 24th annual festival will be held Oct. 18-19 on Dolphin Drive, and will feature live music and more than 100 food and art vendors as well as an entertainment area for children.
