Aug. 26--With a 4-1 vote Monday, the Fayette County Public Schools board approved tax rates for the 2014-15 school year that represent a 2.3 cent increase per $100 of assessed value.

The most recent rate was 69.6 cents for real estate and personal property. The board approved a rate of 71.9 cents per $100 for real estate and for personal property. The tax rate for motor vehicles is unchanged.

The increase means the owner of a $100,000 home would pay an additional $23 a year, or less than $2 a month.

Board member Amanda Ferguson, who cast the dissenting vote, said the district budget passed in the spring was predicated on the tax increase. She said she voted against that budget because she had questions about it that have not yet been answered.
