Wireless Charging Will Redefine Device Maintenance But Not Without Growing Pains; ChargeBase LLC Identifies Four Reasons Wireless Charging May Become Obsolete

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) August 23, 2014

ChargeBase LLC was founded to create solutions to current challenges with charging multiple devices and also to help with those who are beginning to make the transition into the wireless charging era. In an article posted by They explore the new technology and site the many obvious reasons that wirelessly charging devices is seen by the new technology adopters as the next big advancement in the device industry. They also list reasons why a traditional hard wired connection would potentially still be the better alternative. Here are 10 things Battery University listed as challenges with wireless charging.

First, efficiency losses, the wireless charger includes the "readiness" mode to identify the placement of an object, a feature that adds to power consumption.

Next, lost energy turns into heat and a wireless charger can get quite warm during charge. Any temperature increase to the battery causes undue stress, and batteries charged on wireless devices may not last as long on a mat as on the regular plug-in charger.

Third, charging EVs without plug and cable offers the ultimate in convenience as the driver simply parks the vehicle over a transmit coil. The potential radiation of EV charging is higher than Wi-Fi or talking on a mobile phone; it could also endanger people wearing a pacemaker.

Fourth, currently, a wireless charging station will cost roughly 25 percent more than a regular charger. A 25 percent premium also applies to the receiver. If the portable device cannot be charged with the battery installed, as is possible with a mobile phone, then each battery would need its own receiver and the battery pack would bear the added cost.

For the reasons listed above, states that "Unless wireless charging is necessary for convenience or environmental reasons, charging through battery contact continues to be a practical alternative."

ChargeBase is a device used to free up additional wall outlets while still charging multiple handheld electronic devices. The charging station provides additional outlets while not reducing the number of ports. The charging base is rectangular with a pair of electrical prongs on the back side of the device and a pair of receiving outlets on the front face. The back prongs are placed inside an existing wall outlet to power the charging station. An upper surface features a removable charging pin which charges the device. Additional interchangeable charging pins can be installed on the back side of the device, removable for charging different types and brands of electronic devices. The bottom portion of the charging station includes two female USB ports. The charging pin is connected to a retractable cord which fits inside the base station. The retractable cord allows for electronic devices to be used during the charging process. ChargeBase can be constructed using durable, long-lasting plastic and general electrical materials. Other suitable materials may be used in construction of the device. A standard embodiment of the device may measure approximately 3" in length, 0.8" in width, and 4.8" in height. The device can be adapted for US 3-pin plugs. Exact size, measurement, and construction specifications may vary upon manufacturing.
