BRIEF: Operation Chillout and VALOR host fundraisers

Aug. 23--Fundraisers are scheduled this weekend for Operation Chillout and VALOR, two organizations working to help homeless veterans in the Poconos.

Pocono Pub, on Route 611 in Stroud Township, is having an Operation Chillout benefit at 5 p.m. today, featuring drink specials, a barbecue, live music, giveaways and the Bud Light Angels. Part of the proceeds from that day's business will be donated to Operation Chillout.

VALOR is having a motorcycle ride benefit Sunday. Registration is $25 for motorcycle operators and $10 for passengers and starts at 9 a.m. at Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson off Route 33 in Snydersville. The ride starts at noon from that location and ends at the American Legion Post in Gilbert, where there will be a pig roast and live music.

VALOR meets at 2 p.m. the first Friday of each month at the former Hotel Jonas, Jonas Road and Route 534, Polk Township. VALOR peer counseling sessions for homeless veterans are at 2 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the American Legion Post in Gilbert.
