Aug. 23--DOSWELL -- Kings Dominion plans to expand its 20-acre WaterWorks water park for its 2015 season.

According to the park, the new expansion will feature a variety of elements geared toward families, including a mega water slide complex, a family-friendly splash zone, expanded cabana accommodations, and amenities that will enhance the overall water park experience for guests.

The park will continue to offer water slides, rides and a wave pool.

The new 65-foot-tall water slide complex will feature "three thrilling new attractions," the press release noted.

In Paradise Plunge, people will enter one of three chambers and wait until the floor drops out, sending them in a vertical free fall through loops and S-curves in a translucent flume.

In Aqua Blast, riders will be sent twisting and spiraling through an enclosed chute that features four 360-degree loops across 449 feet of slide before they're dropped into a pool of water.

In Thunder Falls, riders will climb onto either a single or double raft and be launched down a series of drops and turns.

For younger guests and their parents, there is Splash Island, which will double the current size of available children's options in WaterWorks.

Planned are small slides designed for young children with multiple jets of streaming water spraying from above and below.

Little children can get soaked underneath large cascading flowers, take a trip down a slide or pump and direct water that shoots out from one of the many splash pad creatures.

Splash Island will also offer options for parents and family members looking to relax and soak up the sun in the adjacent lounge area while they watch the children play.

Also planned for the expansion are upgraded bath houses and additional restrooms.

"This major expansion to WaterWorks will allow family members of all generations to experience water park fun together with our new splash zone," Kings Dominion's vice president and general manager, Pat Jones, said in the press release. "We are keeping with our traditions of providing entertainment and fun to all ages. We chose this six-slide complex to give our thrill-seeking guests a completely new water slide experience and Splash Island to provide a relaxing environment for more family fun."

As is currently the case, the expanded WaterWorks area will continue to be available at no extra charge for Kings Dominion visitors. "We're happy to offer two parks for the price of one," Jones said in the press release. "The improved look and feel of WaterWorks will add to our guest's experience. We can't wait to share that with them."

The park announced that people can purchase their 2015 season passes at the lowest prices online at kingsdominion.com or at the park during public operating days through Nov. 3.

Kings Dominion is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership.

In addition to Kings Dominion, Cedar Fair also owns and operates 10 other amusement parks, four water parks, one indoor water park and five hotels.

Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in California under a management contract.
