Aug. 23--Circus performers, local politicians, bands, dancers, civic groups and schoolchildren will parade through Hickory Hill Tuesday to mark the arrival of the UniverSoul Circus for its seven-day run of local performances. The parade will start at 3 p.m. at Kirby Road, proceed west along Winchester, turn left on Ridgeway and end with festivities at the Hickory Ridge Mall where the circus is setting up in an air-conditioned tent in the parking lot, said Reginald Goodrich, a local promoter for the circus.

The event is called the "Your Life Matters Parade and Peace Rally" and aims to send the message to young people that their lives matter to society, circus leaders said in a City Hall news conference with Memphis Mayor A C Wharton.

"There's no such thing as doing too much to underscore that every life, every family should know that there is a future and that their lives do matter," Wharton said.
