Annual auction Saturday in Florence

Aug. 22--FLORENCE -- A oneof- a-kind model train will be among unusual artworks up for grabs during the third annual Florence Arts and Antiques Auction Saturday.

"Buyers will have the opportunity to bid on one of the most unique items ever offered at this sale -- a model narrow gauge railroad train," said John Miller auction organizer. "Each car was designed and decorated by an acclaimed artist.

"You have to see it to truly understand how special this piece is," Miller explained.

Artwork will include a variety of media, including oil, watercolor, pastel, photography and pottery. Also, antiques will range from furniture and ceramics to dishes, wood carvings and more.

"We are looking at an excellent auction this year with some very fine works," said Miller. "Bidders will be able to take home pieces from many nationally and regionally known artists."

An auction preview will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Bell Tower Cultural Center, 201 E. Second St., followed at 7 p.m. by the live auction.

Light refreshments will be served. A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit the Florence Arts Council'sPublic Arts Fund.
