Aug. 21--Violinist and Gloucester native Gabryel Smith will join Cape Ann Chamber Music for their final concert of its 2014 summer series on Saturday evening.

Smith will perform with Susan Slowick (viola), Fabrizio Mazzetta (cello) and Kathleen Forgac (piano) in concert on Saturday at 7:30 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Gloucester village of Lanesville. The performance will feature works by Mozart, Schumann and Faure.

The event will be a special mother-son performance; Slowick is Smith's his mother and first music teacher when he was just a boy. They will do a Mozart duo for violin and viola.

Currently residing in New York City, Smith, 28, holds a degree in Violin Performance from New York University. He is currently a member of the New York Philharmonic staff. A history buff, Smith works as the archivist for the New York Philharmonic.

He is also a freelance performer and has appeared in concert tours in Europe and South America.

Slowick, who has played chamber music her entire career, started the Cape Ann Chamber Music series in 2009.

"I know some great musicians who are local and I wanted to feature some of the talent we have here right on Cape Ann. The church as been redone, and it has a great piano and great acoustics," she said.

Slowick is a frequent Cape Ann Chamber Music performer on both violin and viola. A student of Roman Totenberg and George Neikrug, she has appeared with the Concert Opera Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of the Commonwealth, The Nashua Symphony, the Vermont Symphony, Symphony by the Sea and the Cape Ann Symphony.

Mazzetta, a native of Paris, holds degrees from the National Regional Conservatory of Music of Aubervilliers and the Longy School of Music. He performs regularly throughout New England and is a recipient of the Chile Foundation Award.

Forgac holds a Master's degree in piano performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and is a veteran chamber music performer. She holds awards from the Royal Society of Arts in London, the International Piano Recording Competition and the Blossom Festival School.

St. Paul Lutheran Church is handicapped accessible and is located at 1123 Washington St. in Gloucester. For tickets and information, contact or 978-239-7391.
