Aug. 20--Photographers will be roaming the streets of downtown Owensboro beginning at 6 p.m. Monday.

The camera buffs are members of the Owensboro Photography Club, and they are inviting nonmembers to join them.

The club meets monthly and is open to amateur and professional photographers.

The Monday exercise is called a walkabout.

"Basically, we walk around and take photos," said the club's president Tony Wathen. "There will be no particular theme to the photos."

It will be an exercise to see how different photographers see the same subject. The photographers will share their work at the September meeting.

The club meets from 7 to 9 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History.

The Owensboro Photography Club was founded in 1948 and has 70 members.

About 20 members attend each meeting, Wathen said.

Members also will help nonmembers with photography issues and techniques, Wathen said. Photographers are invited to attend several meetings before deciding if the club is right for them.

Some benefits of membership include having a personal gallery on the club's website, tutorials, printed handouts, swap meets and a 10 percent discount on film, development and printing at a local business.

Club membership allows participation in the annual show and competition at the Ralph Center at Kentucky Wesleyan College. This year's show will run from Nov. 3 to Nov. 22.

Membership is $25 a year. Additional family members of the same household may join for $5.
