Aug. 20--The venerable Piven Theatre Workshop has announced its 2014-15 season.
It begins with "Into Something Rich and Strange," the company's annual production featuring two of its youth ensembles, Young People's Company and Performance Project. Young People's Company performs Dec. 10-14. Their performances feature literary works they've adapted for the stage. The Performance Project runs Feb. 2-7, 2015. That group has adapted fairy tales and myths.
Then comes "Anytime/Anywhere: The Piven Improvisation Series" (Feb. 5-March 1, 2015), a showcase of the Piven Improvisation Ensemble's long-form improv.
Last is the return of Sarah Ruhl's "Melancholy Play." The work had its world premiere at Piven in 2002. The often-funny play that muses on deep sadness will be seen this time in a new musical version that first played New York in 2012. "Melancholy Play: a new chamber piece" plays May 2 to June 14, 2015.
All performances take place at Piven Theatre Workshop, 927 Noyes Street in Evanston.
