26th Annual Sea Music Concert Series Aboard Historic Ship Balclutha

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 19 -- The National Park Service'sSan Francisco Maritime National Historical Park issued the following news release:

During September, October and November experience the driving rhythms of chanteys and the beauty of seafaring ballads and instrumentals from the wooden decks of the historic sailing ship Balclutha during San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park's Sea Music Concert Series. Sing along with chanteys and listen to instrumentals as the National Park Service celebrates its 26th year of presenting some of sea music's most outstanding performers. The event is wheelchair accessible.

Salty Walt and the Rattlin' Ratlines

Named by SF Weekly "San Francisco'sFavorite Sea Chantey Band," Salty Walt and the Rattlin' Ratlines enjoy close harmonies, instrumentation, and camaraderie, as they perform at a broad variety of events around the Bay Area. Known for his powerful voice and authentic style, Walter Askew has performed at the Mystic Sea Music Festival in Connecticut, and the Chicago Maritime Festival as well as internationally in Britain, Germany and the Netherlands. Walter's love of traditional culture has led him to work at historical sites on both coasts, and to crew aboard tall ships, teaching and singing as he goes.

Linsey Aitken and Ken Campbell

Linsey Aitken and Ken Campbell present one of the best songbooks in contemporary Scots acoustic music. They perform self-penned and traditional songs and tunes, that cover a host of subjects, including contemporary and historic, all with a Scottish theme. Linsey plays cello accompaniment and has performed professionally all over the UK, from Royal Albert hall in London to the north of Scotland. Ken is a singer/songwriter with five recordings to date and more than 30 years of performing experience, including festival and concert performances throughout the USA, Europe and beyond.

Holdstock and Macleod

Saturday, November 15, 8;00pm, aboard Balclutha. Tickets; $14 general, $12 members.

Dick Holdstock and Allan Macleod are still enthusiastically performing together after 30 years. They perform authentic renditions of the songs of their homelands: England and Scotland. Captivating audiences from coast to coast; they trade off on playing guitar and mandolin, as well as singing without accompaniment. Hearing their music is a memorable event and an extraordinary glimpse into a not so distant maritime past, as they reveal new insights into history and old customs through their songs.
