Uruguay : IDB offers $65.9m for 65MW URUGUAY solar project

August 2, 2014

The Inter-American Development Bank will provide a loan of $65.9m to build the 64.8MW La Jacinta solar project in Uruguay.

The Jacinta Solar Farm SRL scheme will secure a $40.9m facility from the IDB s ordinary capital and $25m from the Canada Climate Fund, which is administered by the bank.

Planned to help ease the nation s reliance on fossil fuels, La Jacinta will be located 5km south of the city of Salto in north-west Uruguay.

IDB head of infrastructure in the Structured and Corporate Financing Department Jean-Marc Aboussouan stated: This marks another step forward for the country in the introduction of non-traditional renewable energy in the energy network.

It also shows that solar energy, like wind power, can be competitive and viable in financial terms in the region.
