DURING the course of a two-hour Ramadan evening, renowned singer Lotfi Bouchnaq recently enchanted a receptive audience with 30 of his religious songs and litanies that speak of the love of God, His Prophet (PBUH) and the virtues and morals that transcend humanity to touch the spiritual world.

Bouchnaq performed at the Katara's Opera House. He was accompanied by the Tunisian choir, led by Khamis al Yazidi, who together performed a bouquet of hymns and religious chants inspired by North African, Andalusian and Arabian heritage.

Organising live religious and folk music nights like Bouchnaq's is one of Katara's efforts to re-introduce the art of litanies and 'Tawasheeh' to the audience and save it from extinction and oblivion, all in line with the spirit of Ramadan and in harmony with the values of Islamic teachings.

The religion inspired concert is a part of the Cultural Village'sRamadan Festival, which this year includes 25 activities such as exhibitions, lectures, contests and live chanting concerts. The Festival commenced on July 3, under the title 'Quran and Astronomy'.
