Aug. 02--Central Minnesota kids will perform in the 10th annual School of Rock concert Thursday.

Each year the Wirth Center for the Performing Arts immerses kids in the experience of being in a band. They pick members, name the band and choose songs, and participate in photo shoots, rehearsals and performances.

More than 60 kids, from sixth to 12th grade, are participating this year. This year, School of Rock boasts

18 guitarists, 14 vocalists, 11 drummers, 10 bass players, five keyboardists, three horn players and a violinist.

The two-week program ends with a concert at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre and Visual Arts Center. Cost is $7.

Instructors include promoters/producers Tommy Vee and Jeff Vee, bassist and producer Jeff Engholm, Blimp/Stearns County Pachanga Society guitarist Mark "Hazzy" Hasbrouck, Rockhouse Productions producer and engineer Thomas Cabot, professional musician Mitch Johnson, keyboardist Tom Bard, Dan Shepers, bassist Peter James Johnson, Ted Chopp and former School of Rocker Tyler Kelm.
