Tokyo stocks edge down in morning on profit taking

Tokyo stocks ended Wednesday morning slightly lower as selling after a recent rally offset buying on the heels of overnight gains on Wall Street.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 8.09 points, or 0.05 percent, from Tuesday to 15,441.70. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.75 point, or 0.06 percent, to 1,279.54.

Major decliners included consumer finance and brokerage shares while communications and marine transport gained ground.
