WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 -- Information Technology and Innovation Foundation issued the following news release:
In recent years, China and India have been pulling out all the stops in their efforts to incubate indigenous semiconductor fabrication and design industries. For example, last December, the Chinese announced investments of up to $16.5 billion to further develop indigenous semiconductor fabrication and design industries. India for its part has tried a combination of local content requirements and billions in incentives to jumpstart its semiconductor sector.
To further assess these development strategies and their impact on the industry as a whole, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) and the George Mason University (GMU) School of Public Policy will host Professor Douglas Fuller- an expert on the dynamics of the global semiconductor industry-on Wednesday, August 27 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The event will be held at ITIF, 1101 K Street N.W. Suite 610A.
Fuller, a faculty member in the Department of Business Administration at China'sZhejiang University, will explore what these initiatives have accomplished for China and India and what they will mean for the future of the global semiconductor industry. Will they result in drastic changes to industrial development, IP creation, and value capture? How will they affect America's semiconductor producers? What American policy reforms are required to address this changing environment?
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by David Hart, Director of the Center for Science and Technology Policy at GMU, and featuring Robert Atkinson, President of ITIF, Jimmy Goodrich, Director of Global Policy, Information Technology Industry Council and Brian Toohey, President and CEO of the Semiconductor Industry Association.
The event is free, open to the public and complies with ethics rules. A live webcast will be featured on the event page.
