Aug. 19--You can't ask for better acoustics than the soaring metal ceiling of the Hot Shop cone at the Museum of Glass, and this Friday Portland melodic rock band Rags and Ribbons will take full advantage of the echoes in a live concert amid the glass-blowing furnaces.
A trio playing rock inspired by classical piano, Rags and Ribbons cites progressive and post-rock influences like Florence and the Machine, Sigur Ros and Muse. They play regularly up and down the West Coast.
The Hot Shop event kicks off with live emceed glass-blowing at 6:30 p.m.Aug. 22, and at 7:30 p.m. the band will play from the upper balcony as glassmaking continues through the evening. There will be a cash bar for beer, wine and food; museum organizer Cory Ladd hopes that the concert will prove popular enough to become a regular event. Tickets $5; all ages.
