Carol's Linens in Macon moving to the Prado shopping center

August 18, 2014

By Linda S. Morris, The Macon Telegraph

Aug. 18--Carol's Linens is moving to the Prado shopping center on Forsyth Road, less than 4 miles from its current location.

"I chose it for several reasons," said owner Carol Kaplan. "The ownership of the property is locally owned. The property owners are very interested in having businesses in this strip center that can feed off one another. ... We all have the same customer base."

Other stores in the center at 4123 Forsyth Road include Rumor, a ladies boutique; Head Over Heels, a shoe store; and Yvonne's Natural Market. The center is owned by The Prado LLC.

Carol's Linens is moving into space formerly occupied by State Bank and Trust Co.'s commercial banking center.

Kaplan announced earlier in August she planned to move the business from 265 Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard where it had been since March 2010. But at that time she couldn't disclose the new location because the lease was not complete.

The existing store could close by the end of this week, she said.

Kaplan plans to spend the month of September painting the new location and ironing linens, she said. The new store is expected to open Oct. 6, and it will be decorated for the Christmas holidays.

"It's going to be the best Carol's Linens yet," she said.

The new store -- with 3,500 square feet of space -- will be considerably smaller than the current 10,000-square-foot store. But Kaplan said the new space is configured differently.

"We still will have 10 beds on display," instead of 15 beds, she said. "We are still going to have a large space devoted to the kitchen area, and we're expanding our gift items."

Some of the new gift items would include candles, soaps, silver trays and dish towels, she said.

"It sounds crazy, but it's hard to find nice dish towels," she said. "We put in a lot of research trying to find things that we felt like people were having to go to Atlanta for and we could save them that trip."
