Bringing Platinum LEEDership to Texas

August 18, 2014

ENP Newswire - 18 August 2014

Release date- 13082014 - HID Global recently achieved LEED Platinum certification for our new World Headquarters and North American Operations Center in Austin - the first manufacturing facility in the state of Texas to be awarded this distinction.

Working with the USGBC, the city of Austin and our partners to achieve this prestigious sustainability milestone has been an extremely rewarding experience for us, from the initial registration and application process, through to the final certification of our LEED Platinum project in June of this year.

Our Austin facility received Platinum certification under LEED for Commercial Interiors by meeting all of the associated requirements laid out by USGBC. This would never have been possible without the collaborative efforts of our strong team and the solid plan that guided us from the beginning. From the ground up, we developed our building with tenets of LEED Platinum certification in mind-everything we did, and continue to do, has been focused by this goal, from our site selection through all aspects of design and construction, and on to management of the operational facility today.

First, we chose a site in close proximity to community services and public transportation, as well as a Desired Development Zone that reduces transportation impacts and facilitates walkable access to services for occupants. Next, we evaluated all facility design elements and their ability to support our corporate sustainability initiatives. Key features of the facility include water-efficient landscaping, indoor water use reduction, optimized lighting performance from LED fixture selection, and optimized energy performance of equipment and appliances. Controllable lighting systems were also an important feature, as was thermal comfort verification to minimize energy use associated with building air conditioning. We also improved indoor air quality through selection of low-emitting materials. Construction waste was managed to reduce demand for resources and minimize environmental impacts, and we further reduced virgin materials use and solid waste volumes through the selection of sustainable materials.

We at HID Global are extremely proud of our LEED Platinum certification, and hope to register and ultimately certify more of our global facilities in the near feature with USGBC. We believe this certification has further elevated our award-winning facility as a leading Austin sustainability showcase and a Texas business success story. It also signifies our 'Green by Design' philosophy and continuing focus on sustainability excellence throughout our business. For our customers, this achievement translates into innovative, secure products and solutions that help minimize environmental impact while reducing operating costs. We share this important accomplishment with all of the many people and organizations that worked with us to make it possible. And we applaud the ongoing work of the USGBC, as the organization leads the market transformation to move faster and reach further than ever before.
