Fastlink set to build up its position in core markets

UAE firm well-positioned to take advantage of market upturn

Fastlink, a limited liability company, sees a bright outlook for the mobile phone and tablet market and will continue to build up its position in core markets, its top official says.

Ali Salem, group president and chief executive of Fastlink, said the Middle East and North Africa region continues to be in an excellent position for tremendous growth in mobility segments.

"With its key strength in distribution and strong market share, Fastlink is well-positioned to take advantage of the market upturn. The company will continue to build up its position in its strongholds region and develop its market share throughout the GCC and new territories," Salem told Khaleej Times in an interview.

FastLink, which was founded in 2002, started its operation in the mobile phone industry with the vision to become one of the leading distributors and traders of mobile phone products in the Middle East and Africa. It has progressively expanded to its current turnover by selling millions of units its wholesale operations and over 21 retail stores all over the UAE. Evaluating Fastlink's performance since inception, Salem said the company started its business by selling mobile phones at its seven retail shops set up in different geographic areas of the UAE during the first four years of its operations. However, the company expanded its business and engaged in wholesale trade and distribution of mobile devices and accessories.

"Our job was not limited to selling to our customers, but also to transfer our retail sale experiences to them. In past six years, we launched our operations in Gulf, Middle East and North Africa region," he said.

Salem, an industry veteran, has been engaged in the mobile phone business since 1996 and has generated exceptional results. He has been involved in creating, organising and developing mobile phone sales, service centres and retail outlets across the UAE.

"We have introduced scores of mobile phones and even I don't remember the exact number and received positive response from the customers and it is evident with our growing network of business. No work will succeed without customers' satisfaction," he said.

About the company's market share and its target for next three years, he said Fastlink is among leading players of the industry.

"I think we are among the top five in the local market. We always try to be No.1, but our first goal is to achieve customer satisfaction," he said. To a question about fast developments in the smartphone segment, he said it is one of the fastest-growing businesses today with tremendous developments recorded in a limited period of time.

"We are one of the top contributors in the launch of new smartphones in the Mena region."

"We have our own plans to launch new mobile phones and smartphones in near and far future. We always try our best to be the leader in this fast growing mobile phone business," he said.

Regarding expansion plans, he said Fastlink has already been establish its presence in Gulf and Mena region.

"We are already get into most of the GCC markets, as well as in the Mena region. We work closely with all of our clientele and support them in all aspects," he said.

About the competition in the smartphone segment, especially from leading brands, he said it is becoming tough day-by-day for brands to sustain their market share.

"In my view the competition is very tough and it engaged all brands in a constant struggle to introduce latest and innovative products that can please consumers and outperform the competitors, otherwise they will lose their position and market share," Salem concluded.
