BRIEF: Symphonic Blast is a no-go

August 16, 2014

By William Smith, The Hawk Eye, Burlington, Iowa

Aug. 16--The 19th annual Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra Symphonic Blast scheduled for tonight has been canceled.

SEISO manager Kate Gerst made the announcement shortly after noon, citing the continual rain showers that are expected to continue into tonight. The concert and accompanying fireworks show was originally scheduled for early July, but had to be postponed due to rain.

There won't be another Symphonic Blast concert until next July.

This marks the first time the concert has been canceled. The concert was postponed two years ago due to overly dry conditions, but returned later that summer without the fireworks.
