Aug. 15--GULFPORT -- Centennial Plaza, LLC and the Gulfport Redevelopment Commission will announce the first tenant for the Centennial Plaza development at the old Gulfport Veterans Affairs property on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Centennial Plaza is set to be a "community-oriented, festival marketplace neighborhood encompassing retail, restaurant, office, hotel and residential uses," according to a release.
"We have all been awaiting this sort of news and look forward to more details being released -- especially the commencement of construction," Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes said. "This is cause for the citizens of Gulfport and our entire Coast community to be excited."
The property recently was entered into The National Register of Historic Places after taking into account the district's historical Spanish colonial revival architecture, significance in politics, government, military and it's contribution to the delivery of modern healthcare in granting the designation.
Centenial Plaza is on more than 57 acres of beachfront property consisting of 10 historic buildings and a warehouse facility. It was previously the VA Hospital.
