Nikkei trades slightly lower early morning after recent gains

August 14, 2014

The Nikkei stock index traded slightly lower early Friday morning as investors cashed in following four straight days of gains on the index through the previous day.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 19.53 points, or 0.13 percent, from Thursday to 15,295.04. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.94 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,268.56.

Sharp falls in share prices were prevented in the early deals as overnight gains in European and U.S. shares underpinned market sentiment.
