ABC Bank has launched an international debit card that targets frequent business and leisure travellers. The card, linked to a primary dollar account, targets the emerging diaspora clientele in the USA, UK, and the Middle East. It is EMV compliant and backed by MasterCard. It can be used in ATM and Point of Sale (POS) transactions both locally and abroad.

"It gives the consumer the protection against the inherent risk of carrying cash. Even if you lost your card, your funds would still be safe," noted the bank's general manager Peter Kinyanjui in a statement.

Customers who live abroad and would wish to apply for the card will need to visit the bank's agents in their country of residence. This is for those living in USA, UK and Middle East. The card will also cater for local businesses that have international clients.

Last month, the bank rolled out a money transfer service that allows Kenyans living abroad to transfer funds from their foreign accounts to local mobile phone M-Pesa accounts.
