The band, with more than 50 members, has provided music to the community for 30 years. Russ Coleman is the conductor and the band accepts anyone above high school age.

The lawn concert included solo vocalist Jeff Imboden; guest conductors Pat Setser, Kevin Lines and Chuck Appleton; and a trumpet solo by Neal Seipp. Marion Woods served as master of ceremonies.

In addition to music, the event included ice cream and cookies provided by Sodexo food service. President Chuck Ambrose joined those who took a couple of scoops of ice cream.

Student Activities Director Beth Rutt directed games that kept children occupied while the band played.

Although the setting looked picturesque, with the band playing in front of the president's house, which sports iron grill work and dates to 1866, UCM officials are considering what to do about the house. The building suffers from water infiltration problems.

Repairs to the house, support buildings and grounds are estimated at roughly $2 million.
