Aug. 11--CLOVER -- The 13th season of the Clover School District Auditorium Performing Arts Series begins this month. The season will star artists of regional, national and international acclaim.

This season, three of the events feature husbands and wives performing together, organizers said.

First to play at 8 p.m.Aug. 29 will be the internationally acclaimed Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C. The Jazz Ambassadors are the official touring big band of the U.S. Army. Formed in 1969, this 19-member ensemble's diverse repertoire includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, vocals, and patriotic selections, many of which are written or arranged by band members.

"We are proud to sponsor the Jazz Ambassadors and are honored to have been selected as a concert site for this summer tour," said CSDA Program Director David Yandle. "The band selected Clover as a concert site because of our tremendous community support."

Admission for the Jazz Ambassadors event is free, but tickets are required. Call 803-222-8018 for tickets.

Next month on Sept. 11, banjo virtuoso Alison Brown brings her jazz hued acoustic music back to the CSDA stage. No one knows what to call her music, not even Brown.

"It's blue-jazz pop grass, with a translucent, overlying, distinctly feminine quality," Brown said. Husband, record company co-founder, and bassist Gary West joins her on stage.

Oct. 7 brings the "beautifully authentic voice" of Jaimee Paul. Imagine a 1940s Jazz club with the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Rosemary Clooney. Jaimee Paul and her Jazz combo, led by husband Leif Shires on trumpet, deliver that.

Two family shows are in store in November. The sixteenth annual CSDA Family night Nov. 3 features Doug Berky with Foibles, Fables and Other Imaskinations. Berky weaves old, even ancient stories with Commedia Del Arte, physical comedy, mime, mask, theater, clowning, circus arts and storytelling into a tapestry that transcends age, race and culture.

For more than a decade, Kevin and Cindy Spencer have dazzled the world with their engaging personalities, entertaining stage magic and breathtaking illusions. The Spencers redefine the art of illusion and shatter the stereotype of traditional magician and assistant Nov. 18 in Clover.

Children's Theatre of Charlotte crosses over the Buster Boyd Bridge in January to perform "The Emperor's New Clothes." This world premiere is a re-telling of the Hans Christian Anderson story.

Two more musical events are slated for February. "Della's Diner" is a musical soap opera full of nonstop laughter and radioactive chili.

Celebrating their 50th anniversary, the London-based Swingle Singers are legendary in the world of a cappella. The Swingle Singers take audiences on a journey through a multitude of musical styles and atmospheres, pushing the boundaries of what the human voice can achieve.

In March, cellist and mezzo soprano Shana Tucker takes a break from performing in the "Cirque du Soleil" production of KA at Las Vegas'MGM Grand to perform in Clover. Tucker blurs the lines that divide classical, jazz, folk, R&B and soul.

April showers bring the final event of the season. The producers of top-rated shows in Myrtle Beach, Pigeon Forge and Branson, bring "Live From Nashville." Opryland and TNN performers make up the company of musicians, singers, dancers and fiddlers.

Season tickets cost $50 per person. Clover School District Auditorium is at 1625 S.C. 55 E. For more information, call 803-222-8018 or visit clover.k12.sc.us/csda.
