August 12, 2014

Aug. 12--WHAT -- Art doesn't have to be big to be impressive.

Valencia College'sAnita S. Wooten Gallery proves that on Friday, Aug. 15, when it opens "Curator's Choice: Small Works by Central Florida Artists."

Works in the exhibition will include paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture and mixed media -- all less than 16 inches in size.

Curator Jackie Otto Miller came up with the idea five years ago when an artist slated for a solo exhibition suddenly cancelled. Brainstorming for a replacement, she decided to put together a collection of petite works created locally. She went around town, collecting work from about 20 artists. Now, the exhibit is an annual event.

WHEN: Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The public can meet the artists at a reception, 6:30-8:30 p.m.Sept. 5. The exhibit runs through Sept. 24.

WHERE: Valencia College's East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando. The gallery is in Building 3.
