(Syracuse, NY) - U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Representative Dan Maffei today announced that the Town of Volney in Oswego County has been awarded $532,000 in grant funding and a $1,428,000 loan through the Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development. The Town of Volney will use the funds for infrastructure projects to build new water mains bringing clean water to residents in the community.
"With this funding and low-interest loan, the Town of Volney in Oswego County will now be able to make crucial improvements to its water district without passing the entire financial burden onto local taxpayers," said Senator Schumer. "This water main expansion project will provide the town with wise infrastructure investments that will enhance public health, access to clean drinking water and economic development."
"This is a much needed investment for Central New York," Senator Gillibrand said. "Upgrading water infrastructure is an effective way to support local businesses and attract new jobs to Oswego County. This critical funding will help enhance resident's quality of life by delivering clean drinking water to more local families."
"Outdated and decaying water infrastructure is a serious challenge for communities across Central New York," said Rep. Maffei. "It is critical that local residents have access to safe and reliable drinking water and this infrastructure funding does that. Smart investments in our infrastructure like the project in Volney will help to grow the economy and create jobs, and I will continue to work with federal and local partners on these important initiatives."
"I am thrilled by today's announcement and am appreciative of Senators Schumer, Gillibrand, and Representative Maffei's efforts for our community," said Supervisor Dennis Lockwood. "This infrastructure funding provides our area the resources to construct new water mains and bring clean water to our residents."
