Murray County Fair offers new exhibits and attractions for 2014

Aug. 11--SLAYTON -- The Murray County Fair starts Tuesday. This year central Minnesota barbershop quartet, Kordal Kombat, will perform two shows Thursday. The group formed in the fall of 2009 and won the 2013 Minnesota State Fair "County Fair Talent Contest."

With 2014 marking 100 years since World War I began, Murray County Museum Coordinator Janet Timmerman and Curator Dr. Anita Talsma Gaul will offer two historical exhibitions with artifacts and memorabilia from local veterans. Here is a full schedule of events:

Tuesday

9 a.m.: 4-H Horse Show

Wednesday

9 a.m.: Cloverbuds Pet Show

9:30 a.m.: Regular 4-H Member Pet Show

9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: 4-H conference judging

9:30 a.m.-8 p.m.: Open Class Entries

10 a.m.: 4-H exhibit building opens

11 a.m.: 4-H Rabbit Judging

Noon-7 p.m.: Museum buildings and log cabin open

Noon-8 p.m.: Cock-A-Doodle Zoo Petting Zoo near grandstand

Noon-8 p.m.: Commercial exhibit buildings open

2 p.m.: 4-H Goat Judging

3 p.m.: Historical presentation by Dr. Anita Talsma Gaul, "World War I: At Home and in the Trenches," Heritage Hall

4 p.m.: Mylan Ray at the Pork Producer Stand

4:30 p.m.: 4-H Fashion Review

5 p.m.: Kordal Kombat

5 p.m.: Beer garden opens

5-8 p.m.: Fair shuttle available

5-7 p.m.: Fun Food Brownie Challenge

6 p.m.: 4-H Swine Judging

6:30 p.m.: Free watermelon feed

7 p.m.: Bean bag tournament

7 p.m.: Gerry Buse in the beer garden

7:30 p.m.: Kordal Kombat

8 p.m.: Strong Farmer Competition

Thursday

8 a.m.: 4-H Sheep Judging and Lamb Lead

10 a.m.-8 p.m.: Cock-A-Doodle Zoo Petting Zoo near grandstand

10 a.m.: 4-H exhibit building opens

Noon: 4-H Dairy Judging

Noon-7 p.m.: Museum buildings and log cabin open

Noon-8 p.m.: Commercial exhibit buildings open

1-7 p.m.: U.S. Fish and Wildlife laser gun simulator

1 p.m.: Apple pie judging contest

3:30 p.m.: Historical presentation by Janet Timmerman, "The Red Earth," Heritage Hall

4:30 p.m.: Llama Show

5 p.m.: Beer garden opens

5 p.m.: Monroe Crossing

7 p.m.: Joe's Summer Fun Party

7 p.m.: Bean bag tournament

2 p.m.: Nobles Cooperative Electric Rib Cook Off "Best Camp" Contest begins

3 p.m.: Entertainment by Star Fire

4-5 p.m.: Happy Hour, beer garden

5:30 p.m.: Nobles Cooperative Electric Rib Cook Off meal served

Sunday

1 p.m.: Antique Tractor and Threshing Show, Ernie Engelkes on U.S. Highway 59
