BRIEF: Chiefs practice own production of 'Music City Miracle'

August 11, 2014

By Randy Covitz, The Kansas City Star

Aug. 11--It may be only coincidental that the Chiefs open the regular season against the Tennessee, but on Monday they worked on the Music City Miracle -- the kickoff return play that the Titans made famous in the 1999 playoffs.

The Chiefs ran the play three times.

On the first, Joe McKnight caught the kickoff, headed up field, turned to his left and fired a lateral across the field to rookie De'Anthony Thomas, who came back to meet the ball.

Cyrus Gray replaced McKnight, and he delivered the lateral to Thomas.

McKnight returned for the third attempt, and this time he threw to Knile Davis.

Former Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher and much of his staff are now in St. Louis, but if the Chiefs see a need to pull a surprise on opening day, they'll do it against the team that originated it.
