Aug. 01--WATERLOO -- Waterloo native Emily West brought the audience and judges to their feet during her latest performance on "America's Got Talent" on Tuesday, passing through to the semi-finals of the show.

The singer-songwriter hit the stage straight out of the '50s with blonde curls, red lips and a sequined gown, performing a soulful version of "Chandelier" by Sia, a current top-10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

"You're the best singer I've seen here since I've joined in three years," said judge Howard Stern after her performance.

West started singing at the age of 8. The youngest of four children, she turned to singing to get over her shyness. After graduating from West High School early, she moved to Nashville to pursue her dreams and was signed to a record deal.

When she was dropped from the label, she had to find another way to pursue music.

"I'm so grateful this opportunity came along, because it's a huge platform," West told The Courier in June.

After nothing but positive comments from the judges, West had a hard time fighting through an emotional smile.

"I'm on cloud nine," she said. "I'm overwhelmed. Thank you so much, I have no words."

Her mother, Susan Bedard Nemmers, expressed her gratitude via social media.

"This is such a fun and magical time for our Emily... thank you for joining in her dreams," Nemmers posted to her personal Facebook page Tuesday.

Viewers also offer an abundance of support through social media.

Caitlyn Witt (@cjw_superstar) tweeted: "I bet the people at that record label are kicking themselves right now! @Westimonials is phenomenal. @nbcagt #AGT #EmilyWest"

Jen (@ohwillowwaly) said: "I literally almost cried at the perfection of her version of Chandelier #EmilyWest #AGT"

West herself (@Westimonials) tweeted: "I'm swinging from the Chandelier! I'm going to the SEMI-FINALS on @nbcagt! Thank you for voting and thank you #AGT"
