Aug. 01--TOWANDA -- Today's First Friday celebration in downtown Towanda, which has a "Summer Fun" theme, will feature live music at several different venues, and more.

The First Friday event starts at 5 p.m.

At the Community Cup Coffee & Tea House, the evening's events will be tied in with the premiere of the Winding River Players' production of the musical "Into the Woods," which starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Keystone Theatre in Towanda.

From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Community Cup, Canton musicians Clint and Jamie Swartzentruber will perform. "They have a laid back, coffee shop style of acoustic guitar music and singing that will make you want to stick around," said Jodie Brandt, events coordinator for the Community Cup.

The Community Cup will be extending its hours tonight to 11 p.m. for an after-show party for the cast of "Into the Woods" and the public. Members of the public who did not attend tonight's performance are welcome to attend the party, Brandt said.

During the First Friday event and the after-show party, there will be five special drinks available at the Community Cup in honor of the musical, which features well-known characters from fairy tales. Those drinks include "The Big Bad Wolf," which is a dark chocolate and cherry latte with a double shot of espresso, and the "Red Riding Hood," a special bubble tea featuring strawberry bubbles and strawberry syrup.

"Every time there is a First Friday, we try to do special events," Brandt said.

During today's First Friday, students of Terrie Phillips, who owns the Magic Touch piano studio in Towanda, will be performing on the lawn of the Bradford County Courthouse.

The Harvest House Community Fellowship Church will be serving free sorbet.

The Chemung Canal Trust Company will have water-gun shooting contest, where members of the public will try to shoot ping pong balls off a platform.

At the Weigh Station Cafe, the acoustic duo Draco & Jon from the Waverly, N.Y., area will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight.
