Rep. Pocan Introduces Bill to Exclude from Gross Income Any Discharge of Student Loan Indebtedness

WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 -- Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., has introduced legislation (H. R. 5239) to "amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to exclude from gross income any discharge of student loan indebtedness."

The bill was introduced on July 29 and has five co-sponsors. Co-sponsors include Reps. Frederica S. Wilson, D-Fla., Suzanne Bonamici, D-Ore., Juan C. Vargas, D-Calif., James P. McGovern, D-Mass., and John Sarbanes, D-Md.

The legislation was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.
